Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphedema a condition that results from impaired flow of the lymphatic system.

Symptoms of lymphedema include swelling in one or more extremities. The swelling may range from mild to severe and disfiguring.

Primary lymphedema is present at birth; secondary lymphedema develops as a result of damage to or dysfunction of the lymphatic system.

While there is no cure for lymphedema, compression treatments and physical therapy may help reduce the swelling and discomfort.

Neuromuscular Physical Therapy

Neuromuscular Physical Therapy is a form of manual therapy specialising in chronic and acute soft tissue pain / injury. It is suitable for people of all ages and I see a wide variety of clients from people suffering with chronic pain to acute sports injuries, low back pain, Osteoarthritis, Achilles and Patellar Tendonitis, Plantar Fasciitis to neck pain, frozen shoulder and rotator cuff issues, to name just a few. I focus on restoring your full range of movement, alleviating pain and restoring you to ‘thoughtless, fearless movement’. I achieve this by, not only make a change at the local tissue level, but to also make positive long lasting changes to your nervous system by mixing the hands-on manual therapy techniques with specific movement exercises to restore your natural biomechanics and create a more robust system. A session may include a gait analysis, in-depth biomechanics and postural assessments to help understand and identify what the true cause of your pain / injury is, specific targeted hands-on work, and followed up with biomechanics/movement based exercises. I will also provide you with a detailed and personalised exercise rehab plan for you to follow. I am a fully registered member with the Association of Neuromuscular Physical Therapists Ireland and therefore sessions with me can be covered under your Laya Healthcare insurance policy.

Deirdre

Deirdre O’Leary Vos

Throughout her years as a midwife, Deirdre has come into contact with many babies with tongue ties, and with mums having difficulties breastfeeding. She has more than 11 years’ experience in breastfeeding support and became a fully qualified IBCLC lactation consultant in June 2019.

When her own baby suffered tongue tie, Deirdre became passionate about helping other mothers and babies to help them overcome their breastfeeding issues. In November 2018 she trained and became certified and insured to perform tongue tie release (frenotomy) in babies. She continues to release tongue ties and support mothers and babies weekly, in the clinic Tongue Tie Cork.
